Four days in to September I decided to stop posting to Instagram. I had found myself in that mind frame that I vowed to never enter... 'How many likes did I get on this post?'. When I first started my @em_plans page I did it for me. I wanted to share my journey through my anxiety. I said to myself from the very beginning. "It doesn't matter how many likes or followers I get, it matters that I'm happy". Somewhere along the way, through getting married, buying a house, starting my first grown up job, I began posting to get likes. I was swept up in the excitement of being instafamous. Yes, I went there. I felt instafamous. I never wanted to be famous. I just wanted to meet likeminded people.
So I took a month.
Away from Instagram.
Away from bullet journalling.
And discovered new passions. Which makes me so happy and excited, because I never felt I HAD to post it to instagram, I had developed some intrinsic motivation. I wanted to create things for me. Not for anyone else, FOR ME!
There were a few things that I learnt throughout the month:
1. It is ok. No one will forget you. I put up my first post on instagram today. It's the 1st of October here in Aus and I was so excited to reconnect with you. So much so that a few of you are the reason why I'm writing this blog. You took the time to read my post and comment. I love you for that!!!
2. As I mentioned above, I found new passions. Mostly thanks to Amanda Arneill.
I took her intermediate lettering course. Let me just take a moment to sing this wonderful lady's praises. SHE IS THE BEST LETTERING TEACHER! The course is worth every penny. She has been such a wonderful support over the last month and I have found many new friends who share the same passion for lettering that I have.
I also started embroidering again. I haven't done any for years. But I've now combined 2 of my passions, lettering and sewing and I know what I'm giving as christmas presents this year... Stay tuned I'll blog about it one day.
3. I want to live a life that is full of adventures and experiences rather than things. My husband and I konmari-ed (yes, it's a verb) our entire one bedroom apartment. We love what we've done and we're almost at that stage where we are surrounded by the things we truly love... I wish I could throw out that pile of student work that I need to mark... But I'm not sure my boss would be too happy... And I like getting paid, so it brings happiness in a round-about kinda way... Yep...
Anyway... Stay on track, Emma.
4. I need to write things down... So in my month without my bujo, I forgot things... Because I didn't write them down. Oops! I recently read an article that talks about the importance of handwriting in creating, remembering and general wellbeing. So us bulletjournalers must be an amazing, creative bunch! All that handwriting going on!
5. I miss the inspiration I get from the amazing bullet journal community. I'm going to feature some of my favourites over the next few days so keep your eyes posted.
So on that note,
You are all spectacular. I'm so glad to be back!
Let me know if there is anything else you'd like me to write about.
